These ants (Tapinoma sessile) tend to aphids (genus Tuberolachnus) by attacking the aphids' predators. In return for the ants' protection, the aphids supply the ants with honeydew - a sugar laden substance - secreted by the aphid. This is a form of a mutual symbiotic relationship.
