Engraving depicting milk vendors at Spring Gardens, St James' Park, London. Until the outbreak of "Cattle Plague" (probably Rinderpest) amongst dairy cows kept, often in cellars or under railways arches, in London the metropolis had its own milk supply. After the epidemic of 1865 regulations on the housing of cattle were introduced and milk was brought in from the countryside by road and rail. Dated 19th century.
