A special identity card with a red 'J' stamped on it further advanced the exclusion of the Jews in 1939. All Jewish people had to carry an identity card after the enactment of the Nuremberg Laws (Nurnberger Gesetze); anti-Semitic laws in Nazi Germany, introduced on 15 September 1935.
