鈥楾he very famous island of Mad-head; lying in the sea of shares; ' 1720.This fampus cartographical political satire was published in the aftermath of the collapse of the French Compagnie de la Louisiane ou d'Occident; and of similar English and Dutch overseas companies.This engraving is sometimes attributed to Henri-Abraham Chatelain.The scene on the left; labelled 鈥楺uinquempoix Beplystert' (鈥楺uinquempoix Besieged') depicts the headquaters of the Compagnie under sieg by unhappy investors. The island of Mad-head is shaped like a man's head. The islands's rivers are named afterthe principle rivers of the capital cities of the countries involved in the scheme. 鈥榋.Z. have'; alludes to the English South Sea scheme.
