The Skazanie is a romance in Russian Church Slavonic; composed in the 15th century; relating the struggle of the Muscovian Grand Prince; Dmitri Donskoj (b. 1350; d. 1389); against his Tartar opponent; Mamai (d. 1380); the military commander of the Blue Horde and Golden Horde. The central focus is the battle of Kulikovo (1380) at which Mamai was routed.
