An emblematical miniature showing it is necessary to know how to handle things; 鈥榯o rub people up the right way'. This is based on the moral satire 鈥楻oman de Fauvel' of Gervais Du Bus; where those who curry a fauveau are flatterers and opportunists. The fauveau is a symbolic horse; with a chestnut coat; the colour of duplicity. Each of the letters comprising its name is the initial of a word for the French term for a major contemporary vice. The scene illustrates a love poem dedicated by Pierre Sala to Marguerite Builloud.c. 1500- c. 1505.From: Pierre Sala; Petit Livre d'Amour (Emblesmes et Devises d'Amour); (A collection of love poems and 鈥樏﹏igmes'.).Stowe 955; f. 11London; British Library.
