An emblematical miniature showing that the lover's choice should be guided by spontaneous liking; rather than by a desire for wealth. The scene shows a child seated on a table; between two dishes; one is full of gold coins; and the other cherries. He chooses the cherries without hesitation; preferring the dish which appeals to his natural taste. The scene illustrates a love poem dedicated by Pierre Sala to Marguerite Builloud.c. 1500- c. 1505.From: Pierre Sala; Petit Livre d'Amour (Emblesmes et Devises d'Amour); (A collection of love poems and 鈥樏﹏igmes'.).Stowe 955; f. 14London; British Library.
