Anonymous.Three-quarter length portrait of Major Edward Vibart (1807-57) in the uniform of the Bengal Light Cavalry; c. 1833. He stands with his left hand on the hilt of his sword and is holding his plumed helmet with his right. Born on 15 November 1807; Vibart served with the Bengal Light Cavalry from 27 July 1824 until his death on 28 Jun 1857. Cadet 1823; Cornet 1 May 1824; Lieutenant 13 May 1825; Captain 16 February 1849; Brevet Major 11 November 1851. He went on furlough February 1829-August 1831 and January 1833-February 1834. During the latter furlough he married Emily Coles on 4 June 1833. He served during the First Afghan War 1839-40 and went on leave in India from September 1840 to May 1841. He then took part In the battle of Paniar during the Gwalior campaign. He was on leave again from June 1846-49. In 1857 he was wounded when the regiment which he was commanding; the 2nd Bengal Light Cavalry; mutinied at Cawnpore on 4 June 1857. He died at Sheorajpur on 28 June.
