The tumult of the approaching army having alarmed Rama; he tells Lak?ma?a to climb up a tree to find out what is causing the din. Lak?ma?a climbs a flowering sala tree and recognises in the distance Bharata's standard with the orchid tree. He then reports to Rama the army's approach and vows to destroy it; believing that Bharata comes as an enemy. Rama pacifies Lak?ma?a; refusing to believe that their brother comes as an enemy and Lak?ma?a is ashamed of his outburst. Giving strict instructions that the army is not to disturb the peace of the place; Bharata and Satrughna leave their chariot and approach on foot with the ministers.Udaipur; c. 1653.From: Ramayana.Add. 15296 (1); f. 112London; British Library.
