Sugriva then tells Rama and Lak?ma?a how powerful his brother Bali is and how difficult it will be to defeat him. He tells the story of Bali and the demon Dundubhi; who had assumed the form of a buffalo. The demon is shown rampaging about uprooting trees; seeking someone to challenge. On the right; he challenges Varu?a; the king of the Ocean; rising crowned from the waves; who tells him he should be challenging the mountain Himavat. On the left; he challenges Himavat; who stands on a crag of the white Himalaya which is studded with caves containing ascetics; and from which the Ga?ga flows.
