Sahib Din.Sita casts herself into the great fire to the horror of all. But Agni; the golden god of Fire himself; rises from the flames attesting to Sita's purity and presents her to her husband. The gods; headed by Brahma on his ha?sa bird; Indra on his elephant and Siva and Parvati on the bull Nandi; come down from heaven; and even Dasaratha comes back from the dead; with the same message proclaiming Sita's purity. Rama announces that he has not doubted her for an instant; but that the trial has been necessary so that the people too should not doubt her. He requests the god Indra to restore to life those monkeys who have died in the struggle; and as Indra departs with the other gods; he bathes the dead monkeys in nectar; so that they return; wildly rejoicing; to life.Udaipur; c. 1653.From: Ramayana.Add. 15297 (1); f. 182London; British Library.
