Indra the king of the gods approaches Vi??u; enthroned outside his celestial palace and surrounded by other gods under a canopy; to ask if he would fight against Rava?a in the imminent battle between the gods and rak?asas. Vi??u says that he will not fight now; as a god; as Rava?a is protected by a boon that he; Vi??u; should honour; but that he will vanquish Rava?a personally; at a later date.
