The princes go off to meet their other mothers in their zenana; but Kausalya and Sumitra; dressed in mourning saris of red and yellow; having heard of their return; have already set off to meet them. Kausalya reproaches Bharata for having cheated Rama out of his kingdom; but having assured her of his innocence in the matter and having bitterly cursed the person responsible for Rama's exile; he falls fainting at Kausalya's feet. She accepts his assurances.
