The element Mercury is a heavy silvery metal that occurs in fluid form under room temperature. Due to its extremely high specific gravity (13.5 gr/cm3) it has a high surface tension which is evidenced by the spherical droplets on the surface of a mirror, as here seen. Mercury is used in scientific apparatus, catalysis, dental amalgams and other. It is obtained commercially from the mineral cinnabar (mercury sulphide).
