Tomb of Ulug-Beg in Mausoleum of Gur-e-Amir (built 1404), Samarkand, c20th century. Ulugh Beg (1394-1449), was notable for his work in astronomy-related mathematics, such as trigonometry and spherical geometry. He built the great Ulugh Beg Observatory in Samarkand between 1424 and 1429.
