In 1866, the French artist and illustrator Gustave Dore (18321883), published a series of 241 wood engravings for a new deluxe edition of the 1843 French translation of the Vulgate Bible, popularly known as the Bible de Tours. This new edition was known as La Grande Bible de Tours and its illustrations were immensely successful. Athaliah queen consort of Judah as the wife of King Jehoram, a descendant of King David, and later queen regnant c.841835 BCE. As queen, Athaliah used her power to establish the worship of Baal in Judah. Six years later, Athaliah was surprised when Jehoiada revealed that Jehoash lived and proclaimed him king of Judah. She rushed to stop the rebellion, but was captured and executed.
