Johann Tserclaes (1559 - 1632) of Count Tilly; told The Monaco in armor; born in Belgium; then part of the Spanish Netherlands; it was one of the most celebrated commanders of the Catholic forces during the early stages of the Thirty Years War. Just fifteen enlisted in the Army of Spanish Flanders; he began a brilliant career that led him to be appointed; in 1610; commander of the forces of the Catholic League. In the Thirty Years' War he won a remarkable series of victories against the Protestant troops; but was defeated and killed at the Battle of Rain by troops under the command of Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden.
