Hans Holbein the Younger (1497 or 1498-1543) German painter and engraver. Coming from a long artistic tradition family; he worked in Basel; where he was primarily a portraitist for high merchant class; later his style grew the new ideas of the Italian Renaissance. In 1526 he withdrew to the Lutheran Reformation and moved to London; where he became the official painter at the court of Henry VIII.
