LA BELLE Ferroni鑢e; it is said that this name comes from the profession of her husband who was producing and selling wrought-iron objects; or the name of the same: Ferron. Mistress of Francis I of France; she may have been the cause of death of the king; that he infected with syphilis; perhaps even after being in turn infected on purpose by the husband for revenge against the adulterous couple; but this story may not be a legend. Representation inspired by the "Portrait of a Lady" painted by Leonardo Da Vinci circa 1493; for which it is assumed that the subject may have been Lucrezia Crivelli and Cecilia Gallerani; Ludovico il Moro lovers; or other noble ladies of the Sforza court. The name "Belle Ferronni鑢e" with which the work is known; would be awarded in the late eighteenth century as "Ferroniere" is also the name of the jewel that the young bears on her forehead; so called because usually worn by Madame Ferron. Colored lithograph; nineteenth century France
