Cha Ca La Vong is a famous fish restaurant named for an old fisherman called La Vong; a wooden statue of him holding a fishing rod and a string of fish stands by the entrance. In times past the street name was Hang Son or 鈥楶aint Street'; but as Cha Ca La Vong grew in popularity; so the name of the street gradually changed to become Hang Cha Ca.
Cha Ca La Vong's success rests on specialising in a single dish; there is nothing but cha ca (roasted fish) on the menu. The exact recipe remains a closely guarded family secret.
