CARNEVALE Sampeyre; Bay; Calchesio fraction. The Val Varaita is a Piedmontese valley pertaining to the so-called occitana area of Italy. With to others 15 valleys; distributed between the Province di Cuneo and Torino; constitutes in fact the limit oriental of that immense area linguistics; than from the Pyrenees it is extended until North-western Italy through the Guascogna; the Provenza and the Delfinato; where the ancient langue d'oc of the trovatori is still speech (occitano or provenzale). In its more important center; Sampeyre; and in the fractions of Calchesio; Roure and Vilar; every five years takes place the Bay; sure one of the more important festivities of the western Alps.
