Seen AOSTA of typical grange in Val d' Ayas; the municipality constituted from thirty-five villages; some of which become much famous: Antagnod (1709 m) Champoluc (1568 m) Gressoney; Alagna; Saint-Jacques (1689 m). The local toponomastica suggests to a possible anthropization of the zone in age pre-Roman; but the traces do not lack also Germanic presences even if it cannot be spoken about a real colonization like for the near valley of Gressoney. During the Middle Ages the municipality of Ayas follows the events of the house of Challant and the lordship of Graines in which it is comprised; until its freeing in 1783. Lived for centuries thanks to an agricultural of closed type and poor economy; much to have fed various migratory currents; Ayas it only knew a radical transformation with the advent of the tourism; now truly of mass; especially in winter; thanks to an immense sciistico comprensorio and the numerous receptive structures.
