Ta拧majdan Park or shorter Ta拧majdan or even shorter just Ta拧 was opeend in 1958 tio the public. The area was used even by Romans; 2000 years ago; as a stone quarry to built up Roman city of Singidunum. larter on; also Ottomans used the area as a quarry. The name of the park (stone square; stone place) derives from the Ottoman time. In 2011; the park was completely renovated. Ta拧majdan has been bombed in World War I; World War II; and in 1999. The underground caves of the park were used as shelters. In World War II; German air force (Luftwaffe) used the caves as headquarters with a labyrinth and network of underground ways. Aside recreation areas; there are lots of monuments and statues to honour people and to commemorate historic events like the First and Second Serbian Uprising or the NATO air raids of 1999. As well; there are open air markets in the park. On the northern side of the park; there is as well the Church of St Mark; built 1935 to 1939 by architects Krstic (two brothers). In the back of it; there is also the Russian Church of 1924. Remarkable are also the rests of the building of the state TV; hit on 23rd of April; 1999 (16 victims). Before becomibng a park; the area for a long time was also used as a cemetery.
