Megalictis ferox. Illustration and photo-reconstruction of a North American Megalictis coming out of the bush to a mountain river. Megalictis ferox is an extinct predator of the mustelid (weasel) family living in what is now North America during the Miocene. Probably outwardly it resembled a short-faced wolverine, and was the size of a jaguar. It was a very powerful beast weighing up to 50 kilograms, but able to cope with animals several times larger than itself. Megalictis, with its size and strength, could take the prey from a much larger animal.
