Embolotherium ergilense. Illustration and photo-reconstruction of the ancient rhinoceros-like Brontotheriidae Embolotherium walking towards a waterhole overgrown with weeds. Embolotherium ergilense is in the brontoterieds family and the perissodactyle order. These are large terrestrial mammals, larger than the rhino. The group was well represented in the savannah landscapes of Central Asia and North America, mainly in the Oligocene. The size of the skull - 125 cm in length - implies E. ergilensises measured above 4 metres at the shoulder and weighed about 7 tonnes.
