Peruvian mummy research. Researchers analysing specimens from the mummy of a young woman (foreground), which is held at the Darder Museum in Girona, Spain. It originates from Peru and dates from around 1200 years ago. The mummy has tattoos on one of her arms. Ongoing anthropological research using forensic and X-ray techniques is attempting to discover her role in society, and her cause of death.
