Clostridium botulinum neurotoxin, molecular model showing secondary structure. This is botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT/A), one the toxins that causes the deadly paralytic illness botulism. It is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and is usually ingested in the form of contaminated food. Type A is used in botox therapy. This single-chain protein, with a central pair of alpha-helices, contains 1295 amino acids.
