These include beetles, craneflies, locusts, grasshoppers, cockroaches, dragonflies, and many other common modern-day species. A crocodile-like reptile is also shown. The thousands of fossils at this site were discovered in the 1840s by British geologist Charles Moore (1815-1881), who studied and exhibited them. They date from the Lower Jurassic, from around 201 million years ago to 174 million years ago.
