Strawberry Bank insects. Illustration of the Jurassic insects found as fossils at the Strawberry Bank site in Ilminster, Somerset, UK. These include beetles, craneflies, locusts, grasshoppers, cockroaches, dragonflies, and many other common modern-day species. A crocodile-like reptile is also shown. The thousands of fossils at this site were discovered in the 1840s by British geologist Charles Moore (1815-1881), who studied and exhibited them. They date from the Lower Jurassic, from around 201 million years ago to 174 million years ago.
