The interphalangeal joints are synovial joints that link the phalanxes of the fingers or the toes together. The great degree of mobility in the fingers allows them to grasp objects. The toes, which are less mobile, contribute to walking and balance when standing up. The interphalangeal joints are reinforced by a large network of tendons and ligaments.
