Astronomers have observed large networks of superclusters spread over hundreds of millions.of light-years. Clusters and superclusters are separated by ¨bubbles〃 that are almost empty of galaxies; some bubbles are more than 300 million light-years in diameter. Thus, we can think of the universe as looking something like a sponge!
