The monsoon phenomenon is related to the seasonal movement of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ). The position of this low-pressure zone, on which the trade winds of both hemispheres converge, changes throughout the year, influencing the climate in the intertropical regions. In January, the ITCZ is located south of the equator. Winds bring precipitation to Indonesia and northern Australia.
