Meteosat, the European geostationary Earth-observation satellite, is positioned over the Greenwich meridian and covers mainly Africa and Europe. It spins at a speed of 100 rotations per minute as it observes the surface of the planet. Its radiometer gathers atmospheric data on 12 different frequency channels.
