Prepyloric stomach ulcer. Endoscopic view of a peptic ulcer (top, yellow) just before the pylorus of the stomach. A major causative factor in peptic ulcers is chronic inflammation due to the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, which can be treated with antibiotics. In other cases ulcers are caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen and aspirin. Healing is promoted by drugs that block the secretion of gastric acid.
