Abandoned mine. Close-up of drainage from disused mines in the historic Leadville Mining District, Colorado, USA. Mining began in this region as early as 1860 during the Colorado Silver Boom. It centred on the Eagle Mine in the town of Gilman, which operated until 1984, when it was closed due to toxic waste from the mine contaminating surrounding ground water.
