Spotted garden eel (Heteroconger hassi) protruding from its hole. This eel digs itself a hole in the sand which it lines with mucus. It feeds by catching plankton and food particles which drift by on currents, and retreats back into its hole if danger approaches. It reaches around 40 centimetres in length. Photographed in Sipadan, Malaysia.
