Character of Greek mythology; artist par excellence and a priest of Dionysus; one of the fifty heroes of the expedition Argo; his lyre enchanted beings; animate and inanimate. The Argonauts; caught in a violent storm feared for their lives; then Orpheus began a song that was both a prayer to the gods of Samothrace. Immediately two lights that descended from heaven came to rest on the front of the divine twins; Castor and Pollux; and the storm calmed down (electro-luminescent discharge that can be observed around the masts of the ships now bears the name of St. Elmo's Fire) ; at nightfall all landed and were initiated into the mysteries; then departed in the morning confident in a good navigation.
