MARTIN LUTHER (1483-1546) dressed in armor battle; is going to wear the symbol of the shoe of the "League of the boot"; the revolutionary organization of the peasants in revolt between 1493 and 1517. The opponents of the German theologian; founder of Protestant Reformation; accused him of being responsible for the so-called ideological 'peasants' War'; a second wave of riots that erupted between 1524 and 1526. In reality; then Luther challenged the demands of the rebels and supported the right of German rulers to suppress riots in the blood; which may suggest a different interpretation of caricature; in which the reformer takes off his boot he wore; to give it to the flames. Catholic caricature; watercolor engraving; Germany in 1525.
