CRIMINAL LAW Frontispiece of the Italian Criminal Code of 1889; commonly known by the name of Giuseppe Zanardelli Code Zanardelli; then Minister of Justice; who promoted the approval. Entered into force on 1 January 1890; this code abolished the death penalty and allowed a limited freedom to strike. Also introduced the parole; the principle of punishment and rehabilitation increased the discretion of the court in order to adapt the penalty to the actual guilt of the offender.
