The Malwatte Vihara or 鈥楳onastery of the Flower Garden'; stands at the southern side of Kandy Lake. Most of the temple was built during the early reign of King Kirti Sri Rajasinha (1747-1782).
Malwatte Vihara is one of the two seats of the Siyam Nikaya; the highest and most prosperous monks' order in Sri Lanka. In 1803; the year in which the British took the largest number of casualties in the war with Kandy; Malwatte Vihara was converted into an army hospital. Pictures From Asia Rainer Krack
