079_THE PIRAEUS ATHENA#A Cult Religious Statutemost likely from Delos islanddate-360 to 340 B.C.The statue of Athena original creation 4th century; which was of a cache of bronze statues following the sack of Athens by Sulla in 86 BC. The statue is nearly complete; She wears a peplos open on the right side; with a long diagonal overfold; which reaches nearly to the knee. Over the dress is bordered by snakes and emblazoned with a small head of Medusa. The right hand is extended forward. The eyes are inset.the Piraeus Athena is sometimes attributed to Euphranor. On the basis of the sandals it has been suggested that this might be a Hellenistic copy of a fourth-century original. Dated by style to about the middle of the 4th century.
