During the festivities for the Emperor Diocletian; Genesius comedian played the role of a Roman who was converted to Christianity was supposed to be a satire mocking the converted; rather unexpectedly Genesio began to seriously urge the public to conversion; arguing that baptism imposed jest had miraculously revealed Truth. The emperor was offended; he was sentenced to flogging and martyrdom. The holy martyr is depicted with the fiddle and the palm of martyrdom.
