VENICE The Clock Tower; built between 1496 and 1499 by the architect Mauro Codussi (1440-1504); which were added after the side wings. The astronomical clock in gold and blue enamel; mark 24 hours; the day; the lunar phases and the zodiac; above the display; the sides of the Madonna and Child; are placed by the mid-nineteenth century panels of hours and minute hands; which only in the days of the Epiphany and the Ascension are removed to bring out the characters of the carillon; which fall after the 'procession' on the platform semicircular over again; against the backdrop of a starry sky of the Winged Lion San Marco warns and protects the paw on the book with the inscription "Pax tibi; Marce evangelista meus" to the top of the tower; its famous bronze statues known as "the Moors"; depicting two shepherds with a bat flying hours on large bell.
