LOTI Pierre (Louis-Marie-Julien Viand; 1850-1923) French writer. Loti was a naval officer; but failed in his novels exotic solder effectively autobiographical adventurous taste of the plot and the description of color. Among the works: Aziyadé (1879); The marriage of Loti (Le Mariage de Loti; 1880); Ms. Chrysanthemums (Madame Chrysanthemum; 1887); Ramuntcho (1897); Iceland Fisherman (Pêcheur d'Islande; 1886). His autobiography; published posthumously; Diary intimate 1878-1881 (Journal intime 1878-81) describes and outlines the main characteristics of exoticism nature of Loti: a poetic of melancholy and the omnipresence of death; of irremediable loneliness of man.
