ANTHROPOLOGY group of men Dayak or Dyak or Dayuh; native population of Borneo; posing in front of their home. They wear traditional clothing all but one dress Western. It is a definition in disuse to identify more than 200 ethnic subgroups settled mainly in the interior of Borneo; each with its own dialect; customs; laws; territories and culture; although with some features in common; each group easily identifiable. The Dayak were animist belief; however many were converted to Christianity and some recently to Islam. In times past were devoted to the tribal practice of "Headhunters" It was called the practice of keeping the heads of the enemy killed. The consistency of the Dayak population is estimated to number 18 million to 20 million. Photographic postcard; circa 1900
