VENUS CIRENE In 1913 an Italian archaeological mission unearthed at Cyrene the so-called Venus Anadyomene second-century copy of the lost Venus of Knidos by Praxiteles. The work was moved to Italy to be kept in the National Museum of Roman Rome until August 30; 2008; date on which the Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi handed the sculpture to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
