STAMP Sebuggwawo St. Dionysius (died May 26; 1886 at age 16); of the Musu clan; San Mugagga (17 years) of the Ngo clan; royal tailor; St. John Mary Muzeyi said the Elder (died January 27; 1887 at age 35); a servant of the king; who spontaneously confessed his faith before the prime minister of King Mwanga II; and for this he was beheaded; as the last victim of persecution. St. Joseph Mukasa Balikuddembe (died November 15; 1885 at age 25; the first martyr) of the clan Kayozi; master pages; and the prefect of the royal hall was the first victim of persecution for having reproached the King for the murder of the Anglican Bishop Hannington and for trying to protect the pages from its oppression; St. James Buzabaliawo (25 years) Ngeye of the clan; the son of a weaver real; Kibuka St. Ambrose (18) of the clans Lugave; Sant'Achilleo Kiwanuka; clan Lugave. Converted to Catholicism by the White Fathers of Cardinal Charles Lavigerie; were killed during the anti-Christian persecution in their country (1885 - 1887); memorial on June 3. The Christian Fathers wore a cultural message that was opposed to the tribal traditions of the ancient independent kingdom of Buganda; attracting the hostility of the king Mwanga II who reacted by ordering a massacre of Christians; many of them little more than teenagers.
