MARIA GIUSEPPA Rossello (1811-1880) founder of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy. First; domestic and nurse; for advice of Bishop Augustine Maria de Mari opened with a few companions two schools in Savona for poor girls; thus giving birth to the new institution of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy. Received the habit in 1837; she took her vows in 1839. Since 1840 he directed the Institute which spread in Italy and America. He helped the missionaries Nicholas Olivieri and Biagio Verri for the redemption of the small African slaves; and young black girls arrived in Italy illegal in the state of slavery. She was beatified in 1938 and canonized in 1949 by Pope Pius XII. Patron of potters; party on December 7. Rare portrait photo; Italian XIX century
