Dr Richard Leakey , Technical Director of the National Museum Nairobi , looking at the display of home made weapons , used by the Mau Mau ( Freedom Fighters ) which helped Kenya with her independence , being shown at an exhibition at the Museum for the first time . It includes guns made from curtain rods and bicycle tubing , with door bolts or nails activated by rubber from tyre inner tubes as firing mechanisms . The Freedom weapons were dontated to the Museum by the Office of the Vice President of Kenya and Kenya Police , Nairobi , Kenya . 13 June 1969
