Judy , the POW dog , says goodbye to friends before leaving for Tanganyika. Judy , a pedigree pointer bitch , and the only dog registered as POW in Japanese hands , was born in Shanghai in 1937 , presented to the Royal Navy as a mascot to HMS Grasshopper . When HMS Grasshopper was bombed by the Japanese , Judy was captured and imprisoned at " Medan " where she was met and taken care of by Leading Aircraftman Frank Williams .
