The communist sponsored world youth Festival in East Berlin, ended on Sunday night with a very noisy finale. Speakers from all over the world addressed a mass rally on the Marx Engels Square. Following the speeches there was a 10 minute firework display and the rally ended with a deafening one minute barrage of firecrackers, only candles and whizz bangs. It was the climax to a fortnight bowling "peace" into the ears of the laws of participants. 21 August 1951
